Project Overview
Little Artist is a conceptual colored pencil set designed to inspire creativity and self-expression in children ages 6–12. The project draws visual and thematic influence from four iconic artists — Vincent van Gogh, Jackson Pollock, Piet Mondrian, and Edvard Munch — with each set reflecting their unique color palettes, emotional tones, and artistic styles.
Design Objective
As a graphic designer and illustrator, my goal was to develop a packaging system that not only visually engages children but also introduces them to foundational art movements. The design merges educational value with vibrant, character-driven storytelling to foster creativity based on emotion and personal expression.
Key Features
Artist-Inspired Visual System
Each color set is designed to reflect the aesthetic identity of a master artist, integrating their distinct use of color, rhythm, and emotion into playful, age-appropriate packaging.
Custom Typography & Logo Design
The Little Artist logo and type system were hand-crafted to reflect the brand’s creative, youthful spirit — balancing legibility with artistic flair and child-friendly appeal.
Illustration & Character Development
All animal characters were illustrated from original sketches developed through field research at the New Jersey Zoo. The result is a set of anatomically informed, whimsical mascots that represent personality and emotional range, helping children connect to each set's mood and theme.
Packaging & Layout
The structural design emphasizes shelf appeal and usability. Intuitive color coding, bold layouts, and well-balanced negative space help attract both kids and parents, while keeping the experience fun, accessible, and educational.
Outcome
Little Artist is more than a colored pencil set — it’s a visual entry point into the world of fine art, creative identity, and emotional expression. This project showcases my ability to combine illustration, branding, and packaging design into a cohesive product that is both functional and emotionally engaging for a young audience.
